Avianor Inc and its subsidiary Mirabel Aero Service Inc (MAS) have developed a unique product offering that addresses the problem faced by aircraft owners/operators when attempting to re-market their aircraft.
Often is the case where an Interior that works for one operator, does not work for the next lessee. At the same time, the maintenance program followed by the first operator often has to be "bridged" to the next as part of the re-marketing activity. In many cases, a heavy check may be due prior to lease return, again increasing downtime. In these cases, detailed interior refurbishment does not usually land very high on the priority list, leaving the owners scrambling to find another location to accomplish the interior tasks.
Traditionally, Avianor and MAS have provided spares support, interior monument modification/fabrication as well as seat refurbishment and modification to these owners as well as Engineering services to approve the manufacture or modification of these components.
Knowing that the destination for its wares was often a last minute decision led to that "Eureka" moment for Earl Diamond, Executive Vice President of the Avianor group, "It seems to me that a company that can assist an operator/owner to take advantage of the forced downtime required for a "C" or "Bridge" check by completing the Interior modifications concurrently, would have a winning formula".
Avianor was able to put together the team necessary to accept detailed interior modifications to be completed concurrent with check modifications and other lease or sale activities. This effectively shortens the timeline needed to get the aircraft out of one operation into another. Key to the companies' ability to provide this service was the availability of 100,000 sq ft of Hangar space at the Montreal International Airport (Mirabel) which was in close proximity to its existing 105,000 sq ft of Interior manufacturing and refurbishment facilities.
Back in 2000, founder and Avianor President, Sylvain Savard, was faced with a dilemma; having completed the engineering, design, manufacturing and approval to modify a ship set of A310 galleys from KSSU standard to Atlas standard, one final step was required. Either the operator would remove the galleys and send them to Mirabel or, an Avianor mod team would need to be dispatched to the operator's facility to accomplish the modification on board the aircraft. The later was chosen and the company was on its way!
After completing this activity a number of times for Canadian operators, the company started doing work for some US carriers taking in B767 aircraft with KSSU galleys that they needed to be converted to Atlas. Rather than going the mod team route, the operator agreed to bring the aircraft to Mirabel where the galley modification could be completed. Since the aircraft was on site, MAS was able to offer other enhanced services that were completed simultaneously. So the 10 galleys were modified but in the end the aircraft left with new leather seat covers and foams installed on the ship set, the first class seating was extensively upgraded and modified, the flight attendant seats were refurbished, the IFE system was modified and new carpets and floor path lighting installed!
While this work was going on, Avianor was able to facilitate the completion of the "de-registration" and "re-registration" activities and completed numerous bridging items and system modifications required for this aircraft to enter the FAA register.
The above case happened in 2006, in 2007 MAS completed 17 aircraft projects in Mirabel, with 2008 starting with Major B777 refurbishment; it is safe to say that the word is getting around!
